YFS engaged Design Nest to collaborate on the design of a new Domestic Violence Counselling Outreach Centre in the township of Jimboomba, south of Brisbane. The facility supports a number of caseworkers, child and family therapy practitioners along with the administration personnel to run the centre. Personnel and client security and safety was a key concern in the design of the tenancy, The concept of the “ different pickets” fencing is a theme throughout with economical picket fencing making up the visual privacy screening in different areas. Colours and finishes are warm and inviting with every effort made to avoid “ institutional” solutions and appeal to both children and parents. The children’s place space has a green “ grass” floor which continues under the picket screen mimicking a neighbourhood fence-scape.
Economy was achieved through the use of colour and inexpensive feature lighting elements.
